The other day it occurred to me that there was something familiar about Donald Trump’s grimace, that wide wavy chagrin.
And the more I think about it, the more I think it explains what so many lefty liberal Democrats cannot grasp, his popular support despite pretty much anything he says or does. It’s crazy, and it’s not.
Consider the affable, nay adorable Charlie Brown, always the outsider, who can’t get anything right but continues to show up day in, day out and somehow be in the center of everything. The empty center. Not a villain exactly, but definitely an anti-hero.
Of course, that makes Ms. Harris Lucy, Charlie’s nemesis. Always critical, she thinks she’s got his number, and in one department she most definitely does. Able to fake him out time and time again.
This time? This game? Well, we’ll see won’t we. Very much looking forward to Nov. 5th and I hope you are too.
Apologies are due here to the brilliant Charles Schulz, who, if you search him up, never declared an allegiance to one political party or another but was respected by and friendly with many Presidents during his long career. See this short text from the Schulz Museum.
Whatever you might say about Mr. Trump, he’s an American original.
